US AMBASSADOR TO TOGO VISITS

US AMBASSADOR TO TOGO VISITS, originally uploaded by Photo2217.

Our US Ambassador visited the ship a few days ago. It was a small visit but she had the opportunity to visit the entire ship, and I had the opportunity to follow her and the members of her office. Madame Ambassador Patricia McMahon-Hawkins arrived in the afternoon and was welcomed by the captain of the Africa Mercy and soon by the rest of our executive staff. As our ambassador and her colleagues entered the International CafĂ©, they were greeted by even more of the wonderful folks that keep this ship running. Madame Ambassador was so surprised to see a Starbucks in Togo, (that serves real Starbucks from a real Starbucks machine) she soon was able to sample her espresso beverage in the International Lounge. While sipping coffee our executive staff had an opportunity to share with her the history along with the future goals of Mercy Ships and our ambassador was quick to respond with a note of admiration for all the wonderful woke Mercy Ships is doing in Togo. The tour continued on to the bridge, where the captain gave a brief description of all that ship is capable of doing, while looking out of the amazing panoramic view of Lome. I had never been to the bridge until that day and I was so impressed. It’s amazing. The US Ambassador continued to tour the other decks which included the academy, the OR, the CT scan room, and the wards. The US Ambassador and her office were even kind enough to take a photo with the Mercy Ships staff too. Before the scheduled luncheon, Madame Ambassador and the members of her office took time in every area of the Africa Mercy to really witness all that we have to offer the local people of Togo. It was quite a day.
