TRANSmuted: sound becomes flesh

So the press release went out last week. And this is an invitation to those that read my blog to come check out our next Advent art exhibit in Santa Cruz, California. The artist reception is Saturday, December 16th @ 6:00pm. Hope you can make it. For directions look at my church's website.
I wasn't going to put the press release in my blog. But I think I just might. It will give you a flavor of what we're going at our little art exchange.

SANTA CRUZ, Calif., (November 29, 2006) - Vintage Faith Church announced its second annual Advent Art Exhibit in conjunction with First Presbyterian Church today. The exhibit is titled “Transmuted: sound becomes flesh” and will be displayed from December 16, 2006 until January 21, 2007 at Vintage Faith Church (350 Mission Street, at the corners of Mission and Highland). The exhibit will also be on display every Sunday in the campus gallery.

Faith communities around the world celebrate Advent, which is Latin for “coming” or “arrival” and is used to describe the season of anticipation before the birth of Christ. The Advent season occurs during the 4 weeks leading up to December 25. Artists from both the First Presbyterian and Vintage Faith communities were asked to personally contemplate the meaning of Advent and then create original artwork that expressed their contemplations. The goal of the show is to invoke questions in the artists and the viewer that would help reevaluate their view of Advent. Rather than explain or evangelize, the hope is that artists can show a unique perspective on the season of Advent.

In response to the idea of an Infinite Being, who exists outside the boundaries of our physical realm, entering into time and space, visual artists will attempt a similar feat. Each visual artist will guide a song, existing and defined in the auditory dimension, into an object existing and defined in the visual dimension.

Art created by members of both Vintage Faith and First Presbyterian will be showcased at the Vintage Faith Church (the red brick church on the corner of Mission & Highland), beginning with the opening gala on December 16, 6-9p. Live performances of music transformed from a visual art piece will begin at 7pm. The exhibit will also be open to the public every Sunday during the hours of 9:00am to 9:00pm until January 21st, 2007.

ABOUT VINTAGE FAITH CHURCH.
Founded in February 2004, Vintage Faith is a new church in Santa Cruz seeking a fresh approach to Christian spirituality and the teachings of Jesus, in a way that fits the culture and people of Santa Cruz County. Art and innovative expressions of worship are used in our weekly gatherings. The community of the church is built through forming smaller communities who meet mid-week in homes and then gather on Sunday nights for teaching and worship. After nearly two years, there are 350 people coming to the Sunday worship gathering, which meets at 11:00 AM and 7:00PM at the First Presbyterian Church worship facility. ABOUT FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
First Presbyterian was established in the Santa Cruz community on June 2, 1889 from a desire of a small group of Santa Cruz residents. After having their first services in the YMCA building on Pacific Ave they moved to Pacific & Cathcart for a number years. Finally the “red brick church on the corner of Mission St & Highland Ave” became a Santa Cruz fixture in 1939. First Presbyterian Church is a group of individuals and families with diverse backgrounds joined together by a heart for Jesus and a desire to strengthen family relationships, be an extended family for our members, and a surrogate for those without family. Services are every Sunday 9am, Adult Education at 9am, and Children’s Education during the service. For more information, call 831-423-8770.
